Kensington Park Road was laid out in the 1840s, close to where the main entrance to John Whyte’s Hippodrome Racecourse had been a decade earlier. The chapel was built in 1848, in an early Nonconfromist Gothic Style, by John Tarring. The growing congregation had formed the first chapel in the area at Hornton Street in 1793, on land leased to Zillizm Forsyth, the gardener at Kensington Place.
