Pembridge Road
Pembridge Road
Centuries before the modern congestion charge, the first tollgate in London was established here (1769 – 1864), giving Notting Hill Gate its “Gate”. Only those traveling to church or to vote in elections were exempt from paying the charge. Barham & Marriage tea importers; Adams’ butchers; Coodmans Teeth and Notting Hill Granaries were all sited where United House and W.H.Smith are found today.
