Portobello Road
The houses opposite the pub, nos. 2 – 80 Portobello Road, were built by William Henry Cullingford between 1854 and 1858. another of the early builders, A. Davey, who established his business at no. 65, Portobello Road, in 1851, left an advertisement for future generations to see, carved out of brick on the side of the building. It is visible today above Rogers Antiques Gallery, Gypsies started trading horses in Portobello in 1870s and the market was born.
